The “Still” Lesson

God always has a chair waiting for a visit.

Wait on the LORD:
be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the LORD
Psalms 27:14

I heard a Quaker lady
who had to spend half an hour every day
sitting quiet and doing nothing
calling it her ‘still’ lesson.
I wish we could enjoy
such a half-hour daily in God’s presence;
our still lesson would be one
of the most useful lessons of the day.

“Be still and know that I am God.”
Psalms 46:10

In times of difficulty be still!
Thine enemies are plotting thine over throw!
They laugh at thy strong confidence!
But hast thou not heard His voice saying;
”This is the way, walk ye in it” Isaiah 30:21?
Then leave Him to deal with thy foes
from whatever quarters they come.
He is thy rock, and rocks do not shake.
He is thy high tower,
and a high tower cannot be flooded.

Thou needest mercy,
and to Him belongeth mercy.
Do not run hither and thither in panic!
Just quietly wait, hushing thy soul,
as He did the fears of His friends
on the eve of Gethsemane and Calvary

“Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him”
Psalms 37:7

Be still, for He will not rest,
until He hast finished the thing this day.

GCrain’s Watering System and the Gardener

Join me as we tour a special place.

Located on Candy Cane Lane in Redding, CA

down a partially paved private road to this driveway

enter here and you will find a garden.

The soil  is very porous and rocky. Water puddles very little. The ground looks dry on the third day after watering. So this garden gets watered every other day. The watering system is a combination of plastic pipe, hoses, timers, sprinklers on the top of 5 foot poles, oscillating sprinklers, and a bubblier. Sprinklers attached to hoses are positioned on plastic grates:

1. stability   and  2. to remember where to put the sprinkler next.

The picture gallery is of the different spots in the garden,  I’ll include flowers as we walk around the yard.

One day this rose bush is covered with blooms, that night the deer have dessert!

Trumpet creeper uses this tree as a trellis.

If you don’t find GCrain here in the potting shed,

you might find her here making a flower arrangement,

but always look first right here.

After breakfast,  her first stop of the day is with the Word of  God.

If you ever have an ‘every other day’ free and would like to see this garden freshly watered.  GCrain and Aunt S would be glad to have you come and visit with them and water for them.

Five Minute Friday — Still

         July 29, 2011

So on Fridays, we take the dare to become Word Artists. To throw editing and proof reading and critically raised eyebrows out the window. We finger paint with our words – in pink and blue and dark purple. In glitter glue and bright green.

Just five minutes. No more. No less.

Go:

So many aspects of STILL. . .

Too much busyness, Too much noise

So many times wanting STILLNESS

One place were t here is always stillness and rest

Alone with God, the world forbidden
Alone with God, O blest retreat
Alone with God, and in Him hidden
To hold with Him communion sweet.

Blessed Quietness, Holy Quietness,
Blessed assurance to my soul

Yes, borrowed lines from favorite songs that equal still, He is STILL.

Stop.
